Public Poetry Kickoff - April 2nd, 2 p.m.

Guadalupe Hernandez, a WITS student and 4th grader at E.O. Smith Education Center, was selected to read her poems “Diamonds” and "Untitled" at Mayor Annise Parker’s launch celebration for Public Poetry on April 2, 2011. Public Poetry was established to unite the Houston and poetry communities together and to create a buzz about poetry. Guadalupe was the youngest poet to read her work along with professional poets Rich Levy, Martha Serpas, Eva Skrande, and WITS Writer Deborah "D.E.E.P." Wiggins. The series continues at Houston Public Library locations throughout the year, and each event will feature a student from the WITS program. For more information, visit the website for Public Poetry.
