Reading at The Menil Collection
Thursday, May 20, 2010, 7:00 p.m.
The experimental collaboration between Writers in the Schools (WITS) and The Menil Collection, begun in 1990, has blossomed into a nationally-acclaimed, innovative use of art to inspire creative writing. On May 20, in the museum foyer, WITS students will read poems and prose based on The Menil Collection’s exhibitions of Joaquin Torres-Garcia and Maurizio Cattelan. In addition, poets from Glass Mountain, the undergraduate literary journal for the University of Houston, will read work in response to WITS student pieces and these exhibitions. The stories and poems will reflect how writing and art can become a kind of dialogue, interacting with and responding to one another. Noted art critic Susie Kalil will host this reading.
Co-sponsored by The Menil Collection and Writers in the Schools.
