  • Space City Slam Series— Are you a poet or rapper? Compete this January in our preliminary poetry slams that are free, accessible, and open to youth ages 13-19. Poets share 1-2 poems in a supportive slam competition, judged on writing, originality, and delivery. Winners advance to semifinals with the top poets heading to the Space City Grand Slam on stage at Discovery Green, where the Meta-Four Houston team is born. Past team members have gone on to receive college scholarships, internships, and to become creative forces in the Houston poetry scene.

Youth Advisory Council

Youth Advisory Council (YAC) creates a space for young literary minds to come together and develop as community leaders, with student led initiative as the young people take the driver seat in their communities. In its first year, YAC launched “The Flood Zone,” Zine, a summer writing competition, and WITS’ first Story Slam. All of these projects were created, designed and produced by members of YAC. WITS provides an avenue, you decide what you’re building on that street. This school year the youth will continue to drive the future of what they want to see available for themselves and their peers.

Interested in joining the 2017 Youth Advisory Council?

WITS is now accepting applications! If you are a youth age 13-19 and you want to be a leader in the Houston literary movement, apply today! Applications are due Thursday, December 1st.
