The Space City Slam Series 2015 will include ten preliminary slams, two semifinals, and the grand slam final across Houston between February and April. At the end of these poetry competitions, we will be left with six young poets who will represent Houston at Brave New Voices International Festival in July. Young people ages 13-19 are eligible, and all events are free.

Join us for inspired performances by WITS students. You will hear pieces that respond to the works in the exhibit, Organized Love: Ideas on Non-Violence, exploring the relevance of Gandhi and nonviolence to today’s world. This program is co-sponsored by the Houston Public Library and WITS and will take place at the African American Library at Gregory School.

The Public Poetry reading series will be held at Central Branch,of the Houston Public Library located downtown. This event will feature poets James Houlihan, Amy King, Michael D. Snediker, and Regina Vigil.
This month’s special WITS student will be 1st grader Rhea Rybka Brennan.
It’s NaNoWriMo — National Novel Writing Month — and this year nearly 400,000 people will try their hand at writing a 50,000 word story. The project has had striking success in recent years:
Over 250 NaNoWriMo novels have been traditionally published. They include Sara Gruen’s Water for Elephants, Erin Morgenstern’s The Night Circus, Hugh Howey’s Wool, Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl, Jason Hough’s The Darwin Elevator, and Marissa Meyer’s Cinder.See a full list of our published authors.
There’s also a special kids version of the program that is modified for young authors.
The next Meta-Four Houston event will be the Orbit Slam on Friday, November 21st, 6 pm at MECA.
