Your first two chances to hear Houston Grand Opera’s newest song cycle are just around the corner! Join HGOco this month for the world premiere performances of On This Muddy Water: Voices from the Houston Ship Channel. Composed by D. J. Sparr and with words by Janine Joseph, this 30-minute song cycle was commissioned to celebrate the Ship Channel’s centennial. Through voice and chamber ensemble, the piece creates a compelling portrait of the people at the heart of one of Houston’s most vibrant centers of industry. It is presented in connection with the Stories of a Workforce exhibit on view at the Julia Ideson Library through January 2015. Additional free performances of On This Muddy Water will take place January 7 and January 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the Julia Ideson Library. Each performance will be preceded by a brief conversation with a member of the Ship Channel community.
