Do you believe that one teacher can make a difference? At Writers in the Schools, we are 125 real writers who teach literacy in Houston. We begin with what gets kids excited – their personal stories, the wonderful dreams of their imaginations, and their perspectives about the world.

We have seen tremendous success– for over a decade, external research has shown that WITS kids thrive. They score better on tests, they communicate more clearly, they’re more confident, and they are more creative. And whether these kids end up being poets or engineers, artists or astronauts, the skills they learn in WITS will be crucial. Creativity is about solving problems, thinking differently, and discovering the extraordinary in the ordinary.

Please join us for Giving Tuesday and provide an education that for many children will be life-changing.

  • Give WITS this Holiday Season! Every $50 will give a child a WITS writer for an entire year, $125 will support a teacher, and $500 will sponsor a free public workshop. Make a gift in someone’s honor, and we will share a holiday card notifying them of your gift.
  • Join WITS at Elaine Turner tonight from 6-8 pm in the Rice Village for a Giving Tuesday shopping party and give 20% of proceeds to WITS.

Because of you, WITS will give children the skills to express their ideas and the courage to speak from their hearts. This is an educational experience unlike any other. Thank you for believing in the power of WITS!

Warm wishes,
