From the Inprint site:

R. J. PALACIO’S debut novel Wonder is #1 on The New York Times middle grade bestseller list and was named among the year’s “Best of Children’s Books” by School Library Journal, Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, and Booklist. It was also on the Texas Bluebonnet Award master list.

The novel’s central character is Auggie Pullman, a 10-year-old boy born with severe facial abnormalities, who, as he enters the 5th grade, will be attending a mainstream school for the first time. The New York Times calls Wonder “rich and memorable … It’s Auggie and the rest of the children who are the real heart of Wonder, and Palacio captures the voices of girls and boys, fifth graders and teenagers, with equal skill.” Slate.com says “Wonder is the best kids’ book of the year,” and The Huffington Post writes, “This book is a glorious exploration of the nature of friendship, tenacity, fear, and most importantly, kindness.”

Palacio hopes readers will come away from the book “with the idea that they are noticed: their actions are noted. … if they’re mean, someone suffers. If they’re kind, someone benefits. And the choice is theirs: whether to be noticed for being kind or for being mean.”

Before becoming a writer, Palacio worked for more than 20 years as a book jacket designer. She lives in New York City with her husband and two sons. To learn more about Palacio, click here to visit her website.
