Youth Advisory Council

Youth Advisory Council (YAC) provides a space for young literary leaders to develop student-led, city-wide initiatives that enrich and expand Houston’s writing community. In its first year, YAC created the zine, “The Flood Zone,” to offer publishing opportunities for youths; established a summer writing competition; and started Story Slam, a safe venue for young writers to harness their voices. All of these projects were created, designed and produced by members of YAC under the mentorship of WITS Advisors.

WITS is looking for talented and passionate youth ages 13 – 19 who want to join the 2017 – 2018 Youth Advisory Council and share the power of storytelling with Houston area teenagers.

Meta-Four Houston Youth Slam Team

Ranked 5th at the Brave New Voices Internation Youth Slam 2017

Meta-Four is the face of the youth poetry slam scene, representing Houston to the world at the international Brave New Voices festival. Each year hundreds of teens from across Houston come together at the Space City Slam Series, vying for a spot on the Meta-Four team. This opportunity transforms lives, builds community, elevates writing, and takes the voices of youth to powerful heights. Check them out at TEDxHoustonTEDxYouth, and on our YouTube channel.

Congratulations to the 2017 Meta-Four team!
