This year, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston (MFAH) is teaming up with Writers in the Schools to host Space City Grand Slam, the largest youth poetry slam in Texas. This free event celebrates Houston’s rich cultural heritage and diversity by elevating the artistic voices of young poets.
Houston’s top youth poets, ages 13 to 19, will present original works in front of a panel of judges. Out of more than 100 applicants, only a dozen make it to the Space City Slam series. Six winners are then selected to serve a one-year term on Houston’s official youth slam team: Meta-Four Houston. The team will represent Houston at the 2022 edition of the Brave New Voices international teen poetry slam.
