In summer…

hair’s bleached lighter

skin tanned darker

days feel longer

driving in the car

on the sandy floor

the sun fades like old blue jeans

the rays, blinding

but soothing too

the sun sinks in the ocean

closing its eyes to dream–

to dream about a new tomorrow

Ode to Summer

Posted May 28, 2013 & filed under Notebook.

The warm air.
The bright sun.
The flowers coming from everywhere.
The cold water like ice in the pool.
The shining fish in the water.
The people on boats fishing.
The beach way.
The people splashing in warm water.
The people surfing on the waves-it feels like flying through the air.
The birds flying in the air to their nests tweeting.
People playing.
The smooth wet sand.
The white seagulls.
The animals all around.
Summer is the best season of all.

The Broken Shell

Posted September 1, 2011 & filed under Notebook.

On the beach in the murky sand

Lays a cracked and chipped shell.

As the sun looked down on it,

A rainbow of neon colors glittered.

For one special moment, it showed

All of its beauty.

Next second, it was a shell again.

A cracked, chipped shell.

The Sandcastle

Posted March 25, 2011 & filed under Notebook.

One must have the mind of a sandcastle

by a blue sea on the rough sand.

A child is playing on the sand.

You might find something strange

in the sand. Incredible.

The thing could be a shark.

Most of all, sharks

need water to breathe.

It’s funny to be a castle

in the sand because

the water rushes at you

and pulls you back to sea.

The Beach

Florida, Summer ’09
San Destin. Morning. Peace upon the beach:
hundreds upon hundreds of chairs in the cool morning
sand, the sound of waves softly hitting the shore, out in
the clear blue water boats are riding around on the
smooth calm waves, the sun just rising above the horizon,
pink and red filling the sky. There are no clouds on
this peaceful morning. More boats appear.
The waves become violent.

Where I’m From

Posted May 22, 2009 & filed under Notebook.

I am from the beach in Acapulco
that smells so fresh,
from the ice cream that melts
in the hot, hot sun,
the waves that come and go,
from the sand that people use
to build sandcastles at sunset.

I am from the food cooking
in the warm kitchen,
the barking that my dog does
when he is hungry,
from the cup of water that I drink.

I am from the bread I like to smell,
from the voices of people trying
to talk to each other,
and the bread coming out of the oven.
I’m from my Mom who I touch
so that I will not get lost.

I am a Seashell

Posted April 17, 2008 & filed under Poem of the Day.

seashells.jpgI am a seashell
waiting for
somebody to see
me.

I am shiny and
curled up like a
cinnamon roll.
I’m rough and
sandy.

I swim
with the
sea and
the sea
with me.

I am
cold inside
so if you
touch me
you’ll shiver and
quiver.

I swim
around the
sea with
animals living
inside of me.

I’m joyful
in the sea
with fishes
and sea
creatures
surrounding me.

I like
being a
shell
because
people

can hear
the sea
inside of
me.
