I love drumming. I watched some people at church do it. The drummer at church gave me my first drum sticks. He let me come and play at the church. Now I will play anywhere. I’ve learned lots of beats. I got my first drum set when I was 3, but I still beat on everything in the house.

Did you know that November is International Drum Month? This holiday is sponsored annually by the Percussion Marketing Council to promote awareness of drumming. I’m happy to report that a 2006 survey by the Percussion Marketing Council shows girls are as interested in drumming now as boys.
WITS knows how powerful it is to mix music and poetry, for boys and girls. Here’s a poem in honor of Drum Month:
Dum-de-dum-dum
I play my drum
Fast, then slow
Hard, then soft
I listen to the wind
and tap out a rhythm
I listen to my heart
and beat out my song
Dum-de-dum-dum
I play my drum
