Snow in Houston

Posted December 13, 2013 & filed under Notebook.

In Houston snow is very rare
When it does snow, I bundle up
I drink hot cocoa inside
There’s not enough snow to
sled or build a snowman
But I do go outside and play
I run under the snowflakes
I watch the sun’s rays twist and
blast off while the snow level rises.

Changing Seasons

In spring,
I will color the world light blue.
The sun will rise up.
The birds will sing a song
And people will dance all day long.
Dogs will bark
And the day will pass in front of me.

In winter,
I will color the world white.
Snow will fall.
We will jump up and down,
Up and down.
The snow is bigger than we
Will ever be.
Snowflakes everywhere.
So we make snowballs.

Breath of Life

Breath of Life

(inspired by the Upside Down exhibit at the Menil Collection)

The cold beauty of snow

fills the enormous Arctic.

The lit-up sun glistens

in the snow.  I fall down

in the angel-white snow.

Lost somewhere in the snow

I hear the beautiful snow owls

hooting.  It’s so relaxing being

upside down in the breath

of life.
