In summer…

hair’s bleached lighter

skin tanned darker

days feel longer

driving in the car

on the sandy floor

the sun fades like old blue jeans

the rays, blinding

but soothing too

the sun sinks in the ocean

closing its eyes to dream–

to dream about a new tomorrow

Ode to Summer

Posted May 28, 2013 & filed under Notebook.

The warm air.
The bright sun.
The flowers coming from everywhere.
The cold water like ice in the pool.
The shining fish in the water.
The people on boats fishing.
The beach way.
The people splashing in warm water.
The people surfing on the waves-it feels like flying through the air.
The birds flying in the air to their nests tweeting.
People playing.
The smooth wet sand.
The white seagulls.
The animals all around.
Summer is the best season of all.

June 21st: First Day of Summer

Posted June 21, 2011 & filed under Notebook.

Summer

Summer afternoons, peaceful and quiet

Melting popsicles and exploding sodas

Vibrant colors from fireworks

Bursting into the pale night sky

Going to my lake and sailing like a boat gliding or flying

Sitting on hot sand, burning my legs and back

Summer is tossing, turning in new green grass like rain that falls

Eating pink and white icing on my birthday

Playing for hours with my friends

Sucking on watermelon and spitting the seeds

into the air like flying black sparrows

Getting sunburned while the orange-red sun babbles

Seeing twinkling stars in the night sky

Yawning in the day and hibernating in the night

As I sleep summer passes

until I say

Goodbye summer, hello winter

Seasons

In the winter,
Footprints in the snow are always lost.
The snowstorm fills the fissures with cold, barren flakes.

But in the summer,
As the foliage gorges itself on the sweet water and the yielding sunlight that
Waltzes through the fertile canopy and brushes our skin,
We grow apart, and then again grow closer,
Caught in between the gentle dawn of spring and the drowsy dusk of autumn
Then turning our faces from the vivid, heated sky, away from the future,
And into transient, loving arms.

When It’s Hot

Posted June 23, 2009 & filed under Notebook.

I like when it’s hot because
I can go outside and ride
my pink camouflage
4-wheeler. I zoom over
the grass like I’m in a
race. I play basketball
with myself, throwing
the ball up into the hoop.
If I miss, I just try again.
Sometimes when it’s hot,
I just sit inside on the
couch and relax. I ask
my mom to bring me a
Dr. Pepper and then I
settle down to watch
Hannah Montana. If
someone bothers me
while I’m watching my
show, I tell them, “It’s
ME time!” I like summer
in Texas even though
the mosquitoes are
horrible and the heat
makes me sweat!
